Face Time with YallWest

YALLWEST

I know I haven’t had much face time with you lately. In case you miss my mug Google “Lisi Harrison images,” then drain all color from my face and replace my ah-dorable outfit with something ill-fitting and typically worn when flu-like symptoms kick in. Yes, I’ve spent the winter hibernating in my writer’s cave working on my adult novel The Dirty Book Club and mama misses the wonderful world of YA. To prove it, I’ll be at Yallwest Saturday, April 11th. What’s Yallwest? Only the most ah-mazing YA book festival eva! Here’s a rundown of where you can find me.

On Saturday, April 11th at Santa Monica High School:

* I’ll be moderating the panel “Do Popular Things …

Building Books

Hi friends. I promised I’d read you an excerpt from Judy Blume’s Forever…, my favorite banned book in continued celebration of Banned Books Week, but I’m holding off on that until next blah-g post. One of your comments on writing caught my eye and I’m addressing it today since I’m also neck deep in my own process finishing the Dirty Book Club.

Here’s what Lydia said:

Lisi you always give the best advice…
I’ve been writing a book since March and I’m only on Chapter 4. My process is pretty slow, but I want to get it moving a least a little bit. If I can’t think of anything for my current chapter, I write little bits and pieces

Banned Books Have More Fun

banned books week

What does a book have to do to get banned? For censors, it’s usually that the content is too controversial. Maybe the book isn’t exactly “age appropriate.” Fortunately, the best way to sell a book is to ban it first. We are in the midst of Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read. From coast to coast bibliophiles are fighting against censorship and pushing for their right to read… anything they want. I’m in full support. So much so that I’m putting myself on blast and posting my favorite controversial book. Judy Blume’s Forever…

Blume is best known for her Young Adult fiction so this may come as a surprise, but over the last 40 …

Guest Post on the Office Elf Blog

Lisi is away on a mini holiday in Mexico this week enjoying some much needed sunshine and downtime. I’ve guest blogged in lieu of her usual post and am sharing some photos from this weekend’s huge literary event here in Los Angeles, the 2nd annual LA Art Book Fair. Click the obvious bumper sticker statement below to get redirected over to the Office Elf blog.

As usual, Lisi will be back next week!

PARTYYYYY Live with Me

If you remember how much fun we had at my last Little Brown Live at the Lounge video chat with Megan McCafferty then you know this Holiday Live party is not to be missed.

Here’s the scoop on the event:

The Holiday Live at the Lounge on December 17th will feature LBYR YA authors Holly Black, Kami Garcia, A.S. King, Megan McCafferty, Margaret Stohl, and I chatting about everything from holiday plans, to new years resolutions, to our favorite holiday memory, to what to expect from each of us in 2014.  I’ll be wearing my ugliest holiday sweater and I hope you’ll join in on the chat wearing your finest tacky attire, too. Some of the authors attending the Holiday …

Erin is Carin’: My Editor’s Advice on How to Get Published

Kevy my life-crush has this one joke he loves to tell…

KEVY: What’s Lisi’s favorite thing to make for dinner?

ANYONE WITH EARS: I dunno, what?

KEVY: Reservations.

(Fake laughter.)

I roll my eyes when he tells it even though it’s true. I can’t cook. And those who can’t do should turn to those who can.

So when S.R. Rhodes sent me a message on Facebook on the difficulties of getting published, I turned to my brilliant editor, Erin, for the answer.

Need a visual? Here we are last week in my office. She was in San Diego for Comic-Con and stopped by Laguna for an afternoon of chit-chat and shopping. The owner of an ah-dorable local boutique called Isla
