To Blah-G or Not to Blah-g…

Hey you,

We’ve been together for what–twelve years now? During that time I’ve posted over 1000 blahgs and written 31 books that many of you have read. I’d say that gives us real relationship status. And as we all know open and honest communication is essential to a healthy relationship. So here is goes: Would you miss my Blah-g’s if I stopped posting for a while? Just long enough for me to finish writing The Dirty Book Club, then I’ll be back?

If I receive 50 comments in the next week asking me to continue I will. And I’ll do it with gusto. If not, I will assume you want to play the field for a while so we will give each other some space. Is this my way of asking if you still like these blahgs? If they are relevant and resonating with you? Indeed it is.

So this is me communicating.

up close and personal

Now I will wait…

TTYW (or not.)

  • Hi there, You’ve done a fantastic job. I will definitely digg it and personally recommend to my friends.
I’m confident they’ll be benefited from this site.

  • Hey guys.

So I’m someone who has never commented on Lisi’s blog before, but I read all her her posts and enjoy them thoroughly. But I have… a small issue. All of you, who are readers of the Pretenders series, Monster High, The Clique, and the rest of Lisi’s books are amazing, but I have an issue that only Clique readers can solve. So, here we go.

I’m in seventh grade. Last year, I read all of the Clique books straight in a row without taking a breeath of metaphorical air. At the end of it all, I was as EW as you can get. I wanted to live like Massie, and I started a clique in attempt to overthrow the popular clique at my school and reign supreme. But I was an idiot back then, fresh out of an under-a-rock private school. I was filled with raw enthusiasm for public school and therefore didn’t realize my stupidity.

I’ve had a brilliant, Clique-free year. No wanna-being, or any of that. I have a boyfriend(a bit like Derrington actually) and I am happy. Really happy. But yesterday, I made a mistake. A big one. I read just a few chapters of one of the Clique books. And now? Massie-love is back and better than ever.

It’s a phase. I know that much, and I am planning not to do any permanent damage to my lifestyle. Nothing that will threaten my post-phase life. But for now, I am immersed in a hopeless case of alpha fever.

It’s not a problem in terms of appearance, lifestyle, etc. I have that down. Mostly. But one problem is my lack of a group. I spend more time with fictional characters and my boyfriend than I do with girls. Not an issue, I have a few friends, but one is a slightly emo LBR who I love hanging with but won’t fit in a clique. I want to keep hanging with her, but I am afraid she’ll feel left out. That’s just problem one. The other friends that I have that I consider good friends are all Clique-worthy, but they don’t go to my school. So now what do I do? I’ve got a friend who I can’t let down and an extreme need for a clique. Last year I made the mistake of suggesting a clique, instead of letting it happen naturally. I want to slowly get together a group of stylish, pretty girls to hang with that I like to be with. And I want to keep hanging out with my emo friend on the side. Help! What do I do in this situation?

Also, if people have Massie-like suggestions for free time activities or hairstyles, I’ll take them.

    Thanks.
    –H

I had the same issue a while back! I got one of my friends into The Clique series and we decided, like you, to overthrow the current leaders of the school and take their place. So what we did is that we made a list over time of things we could do, but then while making said list lost interest in our plan. You’ll feel like you’re making progress on your alpha take over and it’ll satisfy that Massie hunger but really all you’ll be doing is planning and you won’t actually take action. It’ll keep your social position stable and you won’t have any regrets afterwards because you did something impetuously.
As for your friend, what you can do is ignore all clique-like activities with her. Make the list with your other Clique-worthy friends. Do all the clique things outside of school (since you don’t go to school with them) and when you’re in school, pretend the clique need isn’t an issue. Just hang out with your friend and focus on her. Put your friends into categories. Clique friends and general friends. Share your time evenly between both.

Other ways you can feel like Massie or other things you can do include:
      — Weekly Friday night sleepovers (or monthly in case weekly is too many)
      — Spa days: you can all gather at someone’s house and make your own beauty/spa products then use them all together.m You’ll have fun and be beautiful πŸ™‚
      — Makovers: hang out and have makeovers. It’s something the Pretty Committee would definitely do
      — Start your own dance team with your clique: like when Massie started a cheerleading team. Put on music and create choreographies (some of the songs can be the ones mentioned in The Clique series)
      — Make your own “State of the Unions”s

I hope this has been helpful for you! I hope these temporary solutions turn out to be fun as well as fulfill your need for a clique-like environment. Good luck!!

      • Thanks Casey. This means a lot to me. Although, one issue- there are almost no Clique-worthy girls at my school and the ones who are pretty enough to be Clique-worthy(gosh I sound so shallow) are too nice to get involved, I’m pretty sure. I hate to keep asking you for advice, but…

      • Casey says:

You could just do things like what the girls in The Clique do. You wouldn’t actually be putting together a Clique, but it would feel that way in the things you do. You’d be acting like The Clique girls but there would be no repercussions on your social life once you get over our clique phase. You could tell them that you just wanted a group of people to hang out with and do stuff with. You don’t need to tell them that you’ve been inspired by kinda bitchy (excuse my language) characters in a book to live your life like them. They can think that you just wanted to have sleepovers and stuff. Because really, that’s what the Pretty Committee does, except they add on attitude πŸ˜‰
I hope this helps a little and everything works out!

    • Honestly, my advice to you would be to not worry about finding “clique-worthy” friends and instead find a group of girls you feel you really connect with. Ones that you feel like you can truly be yourself around and telling anything to. I say this because a few years from now being the top clique and being alpha won’t matter at all. What will matter is if you have a few close friends who will be there for each other, who you can count on for support, and to just have those friendships. That doesn’t mean that you can’t do clique like activities like the PC did in the books though. You could still have Friday night sleepovers, mall trips, group messaging and video chats, or even rate each others outfits. As for your other friend, if she’s someone you truly want to be friends with and you value that friendship, then continue on with it. It’s perfectly fine to have more than one group of friends. I mean Alicia had Olivia and Claire had Layne. Just make you give her some of your time too.

As for your need to be Massie-like, have you ever thought of joining the Clique blogging community here on WordPress? You could become a Massie role player and create a Massie blog. Since you said you feel a need to be on top and even once tried to overthrow a clique at your school, that could be your story that you tell as Massie. You could even have your own online Pretty Committee as some girls on here blog together as a PC. There’s even AIM chatrooms just for us bloggers where we talk to each other using our character screen names. Think about it.

      XO,
      Dylan

      • Thanks girls.
My main problem is just getting a group. I will figure this out. I probably will do one of those RP things. I’m just having a lot of issues at the moment. But I am going to be OK. I will eventually get together a group, and I will be an alpha. Eventually, my phase will pass. I know it will. Thanks. If either one of you could help me out, I have an idea.

It would be kind of cool to have an email correspondent in all this. Like, someone who I can email back and forth with asking for Clique-related and other advice. I often need advice….

Thanks so much. Comment if you can do the email thing. I sincerely appreciate your help.

I’ve been reading your blog for years now! It inspired me to start a blog myself, masquerading as Massie Block and there was a whole community of these role-players. Many years later, I still have a blog but no longer as Massie πŸ™‚ Keep going sister!

  • Jannette says:

No! I really do love your blogs! It’s always the highlight of my week! I also really love how you actually take the time to read all of our messages and give us your time and attention. We really appreciate you not only as a writer but also a person. You are probably the only writer who will read through all of these messages and even take the time to write back. This is probably why we feel safe and valued enough to tell you our thoughts and feelings. Thanks to you, I have been able to network better!! And you are probably the only writer I know that will read this message. I have never told you this but ever since I read your books in the fifth grade, I have been non-stop reading everything you write. From The Clique books, MOnster HIgh, Alphas, and now the Pretenders, I have stayed with you and enjoyed and learned everything that you are trying to teach us. However, the only thing that made me an eensy bitsy bit sad was that it was hard for me to find characters in your books that were like me- you know… asian-american. No joke, when I read that there was a cool asian girl in Charmed and Dangerous, I got super excited because I never get to see many asian people in the media- well cool ones that is. That was why I was supes excited to see a minority character in Pretenders (Vanessa) who was smart, pretty, and an overachiever who broke stereotypes. I believe that you created this awesome character because you saw how all of the readers wanted one like her. You probably created this series because you saw how your readers were not connecting with alphas and monster high. You respond to us and that’s what makes you so amazing. I really really do hope that you keep continuing to do your fabulous blogs because we truly love and admire you and want whatever makes you happy. So you should just forget about the whole waiting for 50 comments, you already have a bunch of loyal followers right now. Just because we don’t comment doesn’t mean that we don’t care.

Oh my god! What’s next? Are the Plastics going to stop wearing pink, too?
Lisi, now that I have read all of your work, this blah-g is the only way I can satisfy my craving for your work. You are my idol, and my inspiration. I aspire to be half as talented, hilarious, and clever as you. I totally understand that you need time to work on Dirty Book Club. But honestly, there’s really no pressure. Even if you just shared an article that you liked, or posed a question to be answered in the comments by us, that would be ah-mazing. Maybe a what-would-you-do? Gawd, if you posted a single random word we would probably clutch our hearts, bow down, dab at our teary eyes, and salute you. Thank you for all the advice you have given. You changed my life, and I adore you.

If you’re determined to leave boy
I will not stand in your way
    But inevitably
    You’ll be back again
‘Cause you know in your heart babe
    Our love will never end

… I’ve always found that song just a little bit creepy. It seemed relevant at the time, though… Hm. All the best, Lisi πŸ™‚

I’ve been reading your blah-gs for a good 3 or 4 years now, and you books for a little while longer. As wicked as the blah-g is, I think if you need time for the book, you should take as much of it as you need. If this blah-g is just going to be distracting you from finishing your book or making it as flawless as it can be, you shouldn’t feel the need to keep writing it. Besides you’ll be back in, what, a couple of months? Maybe you could post something every couple weeks or so, you’d get time to work on your book and we’d still be getting news from you! But I’d hate for us to be the reason that your book isn’t as great as it has the potential to be, and for us to be hogging all your genius so your other readers don’t get to share it.
I guess what I’m trying to say is do what you think is best. We’ll understand. Don’t let the fear of disappointing us make your book disappointing because it hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves.

    Lots of love

I have been reading your blog religiously every Wednesday since 2009 when I first started reading the clique books. Back on the old website where you could go back and read old blog posts, so I’ve read every blog post that you’ve ever written. I remember the days before I had a smart phone and before I was notified via email and twitter to my phone that you’ve posted, i’d rush home from school every Wednesday to see if you had posted (and wouldn’t stop refreshing until you had). Now, six years later I look forward to your blog every Wednesday at 19 just as much as I did at age 13. I remember the post announcing that the end of the clique series was coming, the post announcing Monster High, Alphas, The Pretenders(that I still have to make a conscience effort not to call the phoenix 5) and even the Dirty Book Club. I’d love for you to continue writing every week but at the same time I understand if you want to focus on writing The Dirty Book Club. It’s been almost a year since your last book (By the way, i’m dying to know what happens next after license to spill) came out and i’m dying for a new one. I guess i’m worried that if you stop you’ll never come back and i’d really hate that. Through the last six years, you’ve been a huge influence in my life and as I work on my very first novel, I see your influence in my writing. When I started thinking about it the other day, I realized that I always liked reading but your books were the first books that I was ever really excited about reading. Although we only met one at a book signing in 2010 (One of the best days of my life) I feel as through your blog, I know you as if we’ve been besties over the last six years. I apologize for the long post so I’ll wrap this up with a song lyric from P!nk “Please, please, don’t leave me”.

  • I have to agree with the voices above. I check this blah-g every week for your wise (and hilarious) words, and really just to see how things are in Lisi-land. I may not comment, but every Wednesday (and sometimes, the hopeful me will check in on the off-days, just in case!) to see if you’ve posted something new. I used to LIVE on the blah-g. There was a huge community here a few years ago and truthfully, there was a time where that community forgot that The Clique was a window into the positives and negatives of group mentality, rather than the manual for how to treat newbies, BUT through lots (and lots and LOTS) of discussion, that community found a way to open up a forum for everyone. I even think you helped it along those lines at one point, Lisi, but I can’t really remember. Correct me if I’m wrong!

Regardless, I say all this to say that although the cliquish behavior that blew the comments up every week is long gone (and thankfully behind us!), those of us who came here looking for friendship and understanding still come here sometimes! For you. Because I can honestly say I would have never met a lot of my online friends without this blah-g! We still keep in touch. We’ve moved from chattering on the blah-g to chattering on Twitter. And though I can’t speak for every last one of us, I know a lot of us still check in to see what you and the new generation of Lisi-fans are up to. Every Wednesday. And on a (more?) personal note, there aren’t that many sites that I visit. Seriously. Maybe 10? But this blah-g is on that short list! No matter what or when the post, I’m all over it. Perhaps this is because, though I’ve grown older and my reading list has changed a little, you haven’t changed in any way that affects my love for you, Lisi. I’ve been a fan for like 9 yrs(??? GRR MATH) so I mean, I’m sure you’ve changed a lil bit. But not a lotta bit. And that’s why I like your face and will continue reading your words until YOU are ready to stop writing them.

So no matter what YOUR decision, Lisi, just know how much you and this blah-g are (and have, for the longest time, been) appreciated.

    Marshes and mallows,
    Deserae

    • Kaitlyn says:

I think I remember you from the old site! I totally forgot about how I used to chat with everyone in the commits section. Isn’t it crazy how times flies and we’re considered the older generation of Lisi Fans?

      • deseraemcg says:

It really is crazy, I have to say! Sometimes I still check the comments for those of you I lost touch with, but there are still a lot of us in touch! And it is definitely weird to be part of the “older generation!” I think about that a lot. Lol! But still glad to see that Lisi’s books reach people who were my age when I STARTED reading her, and can also still appeal to those of us oldster fans. :]

      • Kaitlyn says:

I agree! I love it when I see someone pick up a clique book!

Don’t stop blogging! I’ve always loved your blah-g, you give such good advice and your posts are soo witty and funny. But if you do need time off to finish your book, then don’t hesitate to! πŸ™‚

  • Lisi, please don’t stop blogging! I can usually relate to all the advice you give and questions you answer, and I love it! Even though you’ve never answered my question (*hint hint*), I L-AH-VE reading your blah-gs and look forward to them every week. If you absolutely need to take some time off, I totally understand, but please please please don’t stop blogging

  • Lizzy says:

If you need time for the book, take time for the book. But don’t stop blogging completely! I look forward to seeing your take on things or even just a positive read when I’m feeling down!

  • I love the blahg! If you need to take a break, then please be sure to return ASAP! And I’d love to hear updates on the dirty book club & pretenders!

  • Liz says:

This bring happiness to my day! Don’t stop them! But, if work needs done, I understand.

  • Lydia says:

Lisi, I love reading your blah-g every week. You always say something that lifts up my spirit. Your words encourage me and many other girls. I’ll understand if you need to take a break to get things done, but I hope you’ll be able to find the time to keep up the blah-g. 😊
