Cellph Help

Most people would describe me as easy-going but that’s not to say I don’t have my pet peeves. Chief among them is a person who is quick to point out a problem without providing a solution. That’s just crop-dusting negativity and we don’t need any more of that. So when I came across the following list of ways cell phones are destroying our lives I was instantly peeved. Partly because I can name fifty ways cell phones have saved my life. But mostly because this cellph-hater didn’t offer any solutions.

Lucky for you, I’m on it.

Cellph-Hater: Cellphones are ruining our relationships. Before we thought that cell phones hurt our relationships with significant others, but now we’re finding that essentially

Home of the Brave.

Happy belated Fourth, Americans!!! Despite my Canadian passport I still celebrated. See?

USA(We have Canada, Norway, and Brazil represented in this photo. Can you spot the American?)

Yes, it’s true, there isn’t a party I won’t crash. But I also happen to believe in this one. This is a fantastic country (even though it’s in need of some serious group therapy) and the advantages that come from living in the free world are too numerous to count. But the thing about this holiday that really sparks my sparkler is that it celebrates independence—something I do on a daily basis. (Notice how I managed to make a national holiday all about me? I know, pretty slick.)

I celebrate it by …

Guest Post Today on the Office Elf Blog

Hi everybody. Alisha here, Lisi’s Office Elf. First off, I am so sorry for the late blog! Earlier today when I was ready to post this, my Internet went out and I had difficulties for the rest of the day. To nutshell the story, I never got it back but was able to find a friend across town who let me take over her desk and finish clicking “Publish” on the blog. Anyway, I know you all were waiting for a post from Lisi, so I hope mine will do in lieu of hers this week.

Lisi was in a crucial writing zone and couldn’t be torn away from Pretenders book 2 so she asked me to guest blah-g. Read …

The Majority Report

Just when you thought you’d seen the last of pie charts and percentages for the summer, I give you this. The results of last week’s Gracelet poll. I wasn’t kidding when I said only 200 could vote because I didn’t pay for the upgrade but somehow an extra 128 of you made it in anyway. Love that. Clearly silver/turquoise was a favorite so we will make that one for sure. I sent your results to the designer so she can give you what you want and I’ll keep you posted with updates. I’m so glad you’re as excited as I am for these. They’re going to be ah-mazing.

Okay, enough math. Another thing we get to lose during the …

CLASP YOUR VOTE!

The brilliant jewelry design team at Gorjana & Griffin has come up with yet ah-nother Gracelet design and this one is even better than the one I showed you last week. The envelope is smaller and it’s on macrame instead of long leather cord. Why wrap your wrist like a mummy when you can stack it with a chummy? That’s right, I made a bad rhyme. Judge if you must but you know I have a point. The small envelope and tight macrame weave makes these Gracelets easier to stack than the bulkier ones I showed you last week. And since most of you will be using them as friendship bracelets, and since most of you are outrageously popular, you’re …

Flight Risk

My ah-mazing editor Erin Stein flew in from NYC today. We were going to spend the day in Laguna doing all sorts of author-editor activities and I was all set to have you tag along. My plan was to take tons of pictures and post them on today’s blah-g. Of course I would include charming captions so you could experience the love, laughter, and synergy first hand. In my mind it was going to be an ah-dorable, informative, and entertaining post.

Erin was due to land at LAX around noon and arrive at my office at 1pm. From there we would power-lunch somewhere fabulous with an unobstructed view of the surfers. We would talk about life in New York, my …

Regret-Me-Nots

oscar

Oscar winners love saying, “stay true to yourself.” And we mostly know that means if we’re really into, say, soccer, we shouldn’t try out for the swim team simply because the popular girls are. We should stick with soccer. But it’s more than that. Staying true to yourself really means feeling good about your choices, even when others don’t approve. Because, believe me, not everyone will approve. But if your decisions come from that quiet confident place inside of you, the place that is full of genuine integrity and passion, you will never have a single regret.

Yesterday, this assertion was proven to me after I read the following comment from Disgusted Grandmother. She did not like The Clique one …

They don’t call me EhMaFraud for nothing.

If I had a degree in psychology I’d change the name of this ragtag advice column from EhMaFraud to EhMaFREUD. But until then the FRAUD is there because my only teacher thus far is life. And while my experience with boys, friends, parents, careers, writing, and wardrobes can be of service to you, there are some areas that I am not fully equipped to handle. Here are two examples from two ultra brave girls:

Hi Lisi!!

I know a girl that isn’t feeling very good about her self right now. She feels fat, ugly, worthless… She’s considered suicide. I’ve been trying to deter her from suicide, and so far I like to think I’ve been helping. I sent her 2

There’s no I in ESTEEM.

My brain is so full of blah-g ideas my eyes are swelling. And yet I’m having a sticky writing day. So instead of giving you something clunky and gooey I’m going to keep this one simple. It’s a technique I made-up (there I go citing myself again) that helps with low self-esteem. I’ll use body issues as my example because this is something most of us can relate to, but you can do it with anything.

Okay let’s begin:

Close your eyes (after you read this) and imagine yourself on a beautiful beach. You are wearing a bikini and you are tanned. You feel good enough to enjoy the day and not stress about your looks. You’re having fun.

Then …
